Elk Hunting 101 in Denver

DENVER – With more than 250,000 elk within its borders, Colorado is the elk-hunting capital of North America. Yet less than 30 percent of Colorado elk hunters harvest an elk in a given year. To help hunters improve their elk hunting skills, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering “Elk 101,” at the Hunter Ed Building on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Taught by Statewide Hunter Outreach Coordinator Jim Bulger, this popular seminar will cover information that every elk hunter should know.

“Successfully hunting elk is a challenging endeavor for even the most seasoned hunter,” Bulger said. “They require a different skill set for hunters than deer or pronghorn. My effort is to provide a foundation for novice hunters to begin to build a new set of skills and add a few more tools to their big game tool box.”

The presentation explores the fundamentals of elk habits and elk habitat, including how to recognize feeding, movement and bedding areas. Discussion of hunting tactics, techniques and essential shooting skills provide a good foundation for the new and novice elk hunter. Registration is limited to 100 participants.
